Meet Jonathan
Jonathan Rubin, a lifelong Palm Beach County resident and Executive Director of the Clean Earth Initiative, is running for Florida House District 87. A nonprofit leader and fourth-generation Floridian, he has worked to protect drinking water, reduce toxic exposure, and preserve natural resources. He also founded Fresh Florida Farms, bringing experience in agriculture and small business.
Motivated by his wife, Michal, and their son, Charlie, Rubin is focused on addressing rising costs, public health, and infrastructure challenges while delivering strong, effective leadership for District 87. “I’m willing and ready to earn your vote.”
“Firstly, I want to state that my number one achievement to date is my wife and my son. And it’s for this reason that I decided to run in District 87.” Jonathan Rubin
Jonathan Rubin, born and raised in Palm Beach County and Executive Director of Clean Earth Initiative, filed to run for the Florida House of Representatives in District 87. A respected nonprofit leader with a proven record of delivering results in Tallahassee and across Florida, Rubin is entering the race as a quality candidate focused on protecting families, improving public health, and raising our quality of life.
Rubin comes from four generations of Floridans, and today he is proud to be raising the fifth. Rubin is an active member of community religious institutions and several local nonprofits.
Rubin currently serves as Executive Director of Clean Earth Initiative, a coalition of environmental and conservation nonprofits across Florida. Under his leadership, the organization has worked closely with lawmakers and community partners to advance policies that protect drinking water, reduce toxic exposure, and preserve Florida’s natural resources. During the most recent legislative session, the coalition focused on three major pieces of legislation, including a bill banning AFFF, a type of “forever chemical” found in firefighting foam that has been linked to increased cancer risks and contaminated drinking water. That legislation passed both the Florida House and Senate. Two additional measures focused on conservation lands and coastal resiliency also passed both chambers, helping protect Florida’s environment while addressing long-term flood risks, health costs, and rising insurance rates.
Rubin said the success of these efforts has drawn attention beyond Florida. Members of Congress have already expressed interest in pursuing similar legislation in Washington, D.C., inspired by the work being done at the state level. This momentum shows that strong policy solutions developed in Florida can have a national impact.
In addition to his nonprofit involvement, Rubin has worked on multiple political campaigns at the county, state, congressional, and presidential levels. In 2022, he led grassroots efforts that flipped multiple seats in South Florida from Democrat to Republican. This success led to the passing of Florida’s Universal School Choice Bill. His political experience began when he served as a congressional intern for Governor Ron DeSantis. Having earned a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Columbia University, with a focus on Environmental Science and Policy, he has concentrated on ways to strengthen the economy through environmental resilience.
Rubin also has private-sector experience as founder of Fresh Florida Farms, a vertical farm that grew and supplied lettuce, herbs, and microgreens to local grocery chains, nationwide food delivery companies, and local food banks. Leading Fresh Florida Farms gave him firsthand insight into the challenges facing small businesses, agriculture, and food affordability in Florida.
Community leaders across Palm Beach County — including business owners, school leaders, elected officials, rabbis, pastors, and county administrators — have encouraged Rubin to run, saying they see him as someone who can best represent the district and serve as a strong partner and ally in Tallahassee. Rubin also said he is committed to standing firmly against antisemitism, supporting quality education, and continuing the work that leaders from both parties have championed in Florida for many years. As a lifelong member of the Jewish community and a Sabbath observer, Rubin said faith, family, and service have always guided his commitment to public life.
Rubin said he is choosing to run now because the district deserves a candidate chosen by the people, not by party insiders. He pointed to the strong turnout and over 20% of crossover voting in the recent special election as a sign that voters want a candidate who truly reflects the community and its priorities.
“Palm Beach County families are facing real challenges — rising costs, public health crises, infrastructure issues, and the need to protect our deteriorating quality of life,” Rubin said. “I’m running because we need strong, experienced leadership in Tallahassee that understands our community and will fight for our priorities every day.”
With major changes expected in state government in the coming years, including a new governor and potential budget pressures, Rubin said it is more important than ever to ensure District 87 has effective and thoughtful representation.
“I’m ready to get to work for the people of District 87.”
Jonathan Rubin married Michal Rubin in 2024 and now share a newborn son, Charlie.
